
About Ruthin Castle
Steeped in over 700 years of history dating back prior to 1277, Ruthin Castle or the ‘Red Fort’ dominates the old settlement of Ruthin, a charming mediaeval market town located in North Wales. With a rich royal heritage that has seen her passed from Edward I to Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I and then Charles I, this historic bastion continues to stand proud today and is the only Edward I castle in Wales where guests can still stay within its ancient walls in a 60 bedroom hotel.
Although large parts were destroyed in the 17th century, the ancient ruins were added to from 1826 to create the present castle which forms the core of the hotel. Her scenic grounds feature an original walled dry moat and acres of private landscaped gardens, parks and woodland, resting alongside the River Clwyd. The castle is also conveniently close to Chester and the picturesque scenic areas of Llangollen, the North Welsh Coast, Snowdonia and Betws-y-Coed.
