Visit Edward I’s fearsome ‘iron ring’ of North Wales fortresses whilst staying two nights at Ruthin Castle within the mediaeval castle walls which he had constructed in 1277 and where he walked the battlements and gardens. Ruthin Castle was scarred by many historic battles between the English & Welsh and in the Civil War after Charles I sold it in 1632. Explore the mediaeval dungeons, whipping pit and drowning pit that remain within the hotel grounds and drive to find the great castles at Conwy, Beaumaris, Harlech and Caernarfon plus others such as Flint, Rhuddlan and Denbigh. Ruthin Castle is also where Edward VII created “an outpost of London in the wilderness”, a particularly important place in British High Society, and where HRH Prince Charles stayed on his way to his Investiture as Prince of Wales.

Mediaeval 'Murder Mystery' Breaks
These are rare opportunities to combine the fun and comedy of our famous Mediaeval Banquets with a little mystery from the legendary depths of Ruthin Castle's own mediaeval past.........
Some roles are available to be acted by guests.......so let us know in advance if you would like to take an active role.
The evening starts with an accompanied tour of sections of the 13th century walls, dungeon, whipping pit and drowning pool (only by pre-arrangement & subject to availability at an extra charge of £3.00 per person with a minimum of 10 people) for those who wish, followed by a 'scene setting' introduction in the Presence Chamber where all guests assemble prior to the banquet. Fully costumed Ladies of the Court and the Court Steward and Herald then lead guests into the Banquet Hall where they entertain, sing, jest and act out the chilling story of foul murder within the castle walls whilst leading the evening's feasting with dagger and fingers... accompanied by mead from clay cups and wine in pewter goblets. Guests can also wear costume if they choose (including hiring them by advance arrangement).
- From 1 January to 31 March 2010, take advantage of VERY SPECIAL LOW RATES in some of our remaining 3-star rooms. All the central facilities of the hotel are 4 star quality but our standard 3-star double and twin bedrooms are available for each Mediaeval Murder Mystery Banquet night (one night only including the full Murder Mystery package) for just £69.45 per person INCLUDING full Welsh breakfast!! You can add the Sunday night for just £29.95 per person. From 1 April to 30 September 2010, the same package is available for £99.50 per person, again with the extra Sunday night for just £29.95 per person.

Ruthin Castle Calendar of Events 2010
January
23rd and 24th - Bridal Fayre (10.00am-4.00pm)
Our annual Bridal Fayre will consist of over 40 exhibitors. Included will be an operational Hog Roast selling Pork Baps, a Stiltwalker/Juggler, Wyndbagge - a Mediaeval Folk Group who will perform periodically throughout the day. The highlight of the afternoon will be a Bridalwear Fashion Show. Refreshments will be available from the Library Bar.
30th - Mediaeval Murder Mystery Banquet
February
14th - Valentines Day Dinner
Dine in style on the 14th, in the superb surroundings of award-winning Bertie's Dining Room. Enjoy a drink in the Library Bar or Cornwallis Lounge on arrival and a romantic candle-lit meal-for-two including aphrodisiac foods and spices accompanied by soft music in the background.
