Visit Edward I’s fearsome ‘iron ring’ of North Wales fortresses whilst staying two nights at Ruthin Castle within the mediaeval castle walls which he had constructed in 1277 and where he walked the battlements and gardens. Ruthin Castle was scarred by many historic battles between the English & Welsh and in the Civil War after Charles I sold it in 1632. Explore the mediaeval dungeons, whipping pit and drowning pit that remain within the hotel grounds and drive to find the great castles at Conwy, Beaumaris, Harlech and Caernarfon plus others such as Flint, Rhuddlan and Denbigh. Ruthin Castle is also where Edward VII created “an outpost of London in the wilderness”, a particularly important place in British High Society, and where HRH Prince Charles stayed on his way to his Investiture as Prince of Wales.

These are rare opportunities to combine the fun and comedy of our famous Mediaeval Banquets with a little mystery from the legendary depths of Ruthin Castle's own mediaeval past.........just four opportunities left in 2008, so book now!!
Some roles are available to be acted by guests.......so let us know in advance if you would like to take an active role.
The evening starts with an accompanied tour of sections of the 13th century walls, dungeon, whipping pit and drowning pool (only by pre-arrangement & subject to availability at an extra charge of £3.00 per person with a minimum of 10 people) for those who wish, followed by a 'scene setting' introduction in the Presence Chamber where all guests assemble prior to the banquet. Fully costumed Ladies of the Court and the Court Steward and Herald then lead guests into the Banquet Hall where they entertain, sing, jest and act out the chilling story of foul murder within the castle walls whilst leading the evening's feasting with dagger and fingers... accompanied by mead from clay cups and wine in pewter goblets. Guests can also wear costume if they choose (including hiring them by advance arrangement).
- On Saturday the 4th October 2008 and 29th November 2008 take advantage of VERY SPECIAL LOW RATES in some of our remaining 3-star rooms. Two-night romantic Valentine Breaks are available on the weekend of 15/16th February 2008 as well as midweek on 13/14th February and 14/15th February 2008.
For those short of time there is also a one-night break just for the night of 14th February.
Each break includes a bottle of Champagne and flowers in the bedroom on arrival and a candle-lit 5-course Valentine dinner-for-two on one night in our award winning Bertie's Dining Room.......featuring 'dishes to share' such as a stunning Assiette of Desserts that will simply make your mouth water. As an optional extra during your stay, treat the one you love to a Half Day Bliss in our Leisure Suite (very limited availability so advance booking is essential).
