Mediaeval Ruthin Banquets
Ruthin Castle provides a superb stage for hosting themed mediaeval dinners modeled upon the legendary feasts the Earl of Warwick held at the castle in the 16th century. Guests are recommended to start their evening of merriment with an accompanied tour of sections of the 13th century walls, dungeon, legendary whipping pit and drowning pool*. Revellers then assemble in the Presence Chamber for the partaking of bread and salt, age-old symbols of hospitality. Fully costumed Ladies of the Court and the Court Steward escort guests into the lofty Banqueting Hall where they entertain, sing (in both Welsh and English), jest and lead the evening’s feasting with daggers and fingers accompanied by a tasting of mead**. Mediaeval murder mystery banquets and mediaeval themed weddings are also hosted at Ruthin Castle. Yuletide themed mediaeval party nights are available in December 2010 featuring a banquet followed by a disco.
* Please note that the tour is only available by prior arrangement and is subject to availability. An extra charge of £3.00 per person applies and a minimum of 10 people is required.
**Soft drinks, jugs of wine and ale are available.
Guests may wear everyday clothes, wear their own costume, or hire a costume from the castle by advance arrangement.

The ceremony will include a sample of mediaeval customs including the quaffing of wine from pewter goblets and mead from clay cups, accompanied by a lavish mediaeval banquet served with a dagger (or knife and fork if preferred). The wedding party will be entertained with customary harp music and songs from the Ladies of the Court under the watchful eyes of the Court Steward. Guests may also partake by wearing mediaeval costumes which are available for hire.
