CASTLE SUITES AT RUTHIN CASTLE

Our Suites are as authentic and indulgent as The Castle itself, each offering very unique styling and decoration inspired by previous high profile guests of The Castle.

At the same time, modern comforts and conveniences abound including Ruthin Castle Robes for all the Castle Suites.

Patsy Suite

Named after Mary Cornwallis-West or ‘Patsy’ to her close friends and family. The original oil portraits of Patsy and her husband, Colonel Cornwallis-West, the former owner of the castle, are featured in the Inner Hallway of Ruthin Castle. Patsy was a renowned, vivacious hostess who was frequently visited at the castle by her lover, Edward, Prince of Wales. This is a striking bright silver room with a stunning feature bed regally draped from a ceiling coronet to echo the form of a four poster. It also features large antique mirrors and a corner bay window with views over The Castle gardens, ancient Medieval walls and the surrounding countryside. The large feature bathroom is again in silver, with a double ‘bath-to-share’, separate shower and walk-in wardrobe.

Jennie Suite

Styled after Jennie Jerome, better known as Lady Randolph Churchill and mother of Sir Winston Churchill. Jennie was a frequent visitor to The Castle and lived here at times following her marriage to George Cornwallis-West. This room is both dramatic and quirky, reflecting that Jennie was a writer by picturing bookcases around all the walls to create a library effect. The King size leather sleigh bed has pillars either side and features a prominent classical bust on a softly illuminated stand behind the bed. The bay window looks out over The Castle gardens towards surrounding countryside. The room also features a unique open-plan, mirror-surrounded, bath area with a double ‘bath-to-share’ shower combination.

Lillie Suite

A frequent visitor to The Castle, Lillie Langtry was a famous actress, a ‘professional beauty’, and another lover of Edward, Prince of Wales. This room has an eccentric country house feel, opulent and ornate in style with a modern black four poster bed. Behind the bed is a walk-in ‘dressing room’ befitting an actress, with automatic lighting and open hanging space. The room features beautiful antique furniture, photographs of Lillie, an open fireplace, a red bedspread and a red chandelier that represent the lust and flamboyance associated with her character. A beautifully decorated screen reminiscent of the bedroom changing screens of her time, hides a large double ‘bath-to-share’ with a separate double shower room and toilet. A large bay window overlooks The Castle gardens and woodland.

The Glyndwr Suite

Named after Owain Glyndwr, probably the most renown of all Welsh nationalists and leader of the Welsh people. Glyndwr had several skirmishes with the De Grey family of Ruthin Castle and attacked and laid siege to The Castle. Upon failing to take it, he set fire to the town of Ruthin and left it burning. This is an exclusive and individual suite with draped bedhead, lounge and optional interconnecting second bedroom. The Suite is fully finished to above Visit Wales 4 star standard with views over The Castle estate and woodland. The master bedroom has adjoining exposed feature bath and separate shower with slate character. The lounge also contains a sofa bed for occasional use.
